Educators contribute to the profession.

How can one contribute to the profession? This seems like such a broad question. I often think about what would be considered overtly a contribution to the profession. This could look like research, development to literature or assessment material. Considering this, would we still see things such as following the other 8 standards, or building connections in the classroom as count as contributing to the profession?

During my time in the education program, I have learned that each professional contributes in drastically different ways. One of the teachers I was able to observe shared great knowledge of mathematical skills and alternative teaching methods. I met another teacher who was happy to share methods to teach from a bilingual perspective.

I feel that considering all of these ideas, I have demonstrated a contribution to the profession through my community-building skills. I continue to develop relationships with community members by working at a youth shelter on weekends and connecting with members active in the profession.

I would like to look into so further methods of contribution, and how I can benefit my community in the best way possible.
