When I consider what it means to be a teacher I have to sit back and think what it means to be Karlea. I have talked about this in my previous personal pages, but I realized I have not given concrete examples of what my personal projects are outside of the education program. I believe that the things we do in our spare time connect to the things we do within the confines of teaching, and thus teachers continue to contribute to the profession in everything that they do. See my page on Standard 7 for more information.

Some of the personal projects I am currently embarking on include:

  • Writing a novel
  • Net Zero Gardening
  • Quilting
  • Painting
  • Embroidery
  • Learning Spanish
  • Jogging

My greatest interest is to write and publish a novel. I have started many novels and seem to always find a way to be too busy to finish. I hope to use this as my winter, spring, and summer break plans.

Professionally I am hoping to develop materials that allow for experiential learning within the classroom and develop packages that other teachers could utilize. I feel that if I am taking the time and effort to develop fun and exciting projects, I would like to share the wealth with my community. My interests are constantly changing and I am unsure what this will look like this coming week, month or year. Please stay tuned to find out.
